The City of Mississauga's Legal Services Prosecutions staff were acknowledged for receiving
the Corporate Award of Merit and Recognition of Achievement from the Prosecutors' Association
of Ontario. The award was accepted by manager of prosecutions, Doug Meehan at the annual
Prosecutors' Association Conference held in Muskoka September 2006.
The primary function of the prosecution unit is to conduct trials and appeals for charges
laid by internal enforcement staff, Peel Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial
Police. In addition to these prosecutions the unit is responsible for preparing and
providing witness subpoenas and disclosure for all charges they prosecute. The Prosecution unit
handles a workload on a daily basis consisting of approximately 120 trials and 60 first
attendance (resolution) meetings.
