Smart Commute Initiative receives Excellence in Planning Award

On September 12, 2008, the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) announced the 2008 winners of the Excellence in Planning award, as well as the first-ever Healthy Communities award.

The City of Mississauga, in partnership with the Regions of York, Halton, Peel and Durham and the cities of Toronto and Hamilton, won for the Smart Commute Initiative.

The Excellence in Planning Award recognizes innovation, creativity, professionalism, problem solving, and communications in four categories: urban and community design; planning studies or reports; research/new directions; and public education. This yearÂ’s winners were chosen from approximately 30 entries.
