It’s Bike Month, which means it’s time to strap on your helmet, dust off your bike and start pedaling to feel that wind in your hair.
Whether you’re beginner or advanced, everyone can enjoy riding a bicycle. Bike Month is celebrated across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) from May 27 to June 30. The month-long event brings together families, artists, commuters and community groups to promote cycling at various events throughout the month.
To celebrate Bike Month, here are three cycling activities you can participate in:
1) Bike to school or work
Looking to save on gas? Consider cycling to school or work during the spring and summer. If you don’t typically ride to school or work, you can challenge yourself to Bike to School or Work day on May 27.
2) Go on a community ride
Community Rides are for everyone to explore Mississauga by bike, meet new people and connect with your community. These free rides range from five to 20 kilometres and participants will be split based on speed, distance and skill level. They run from May to October and take place all across the city. Be sure to register for your ride: mississaugabikes.ca/communityrides/
3) Find the hidden gems
Have you had the chance to explore Mississauga by bike? Mississauga’s cycling network features approximately 500 kilometres of multi-use trails, park trails, bicycle lanes and signed bike routes.
