Public Input Required on Accessible Taxi Services in Mississauga

Dec 03, 2013

Are you using accessible taxis in Mississauga? The City of Mississauga’s Enforcement Division, Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) and Public Vehicle Advisory Committee (PVAC) need to hear from you about this service to understand if legislative requirements and the needs of citizens are being met in Mississauga.

The City of Mississauga is responsible for licensing both taxicab owners and drivers to service the needs of the public in a conscientious and efficient manner.  Accessible taxis are part of the range of accessible transportation options people need. This information will help to support the AAC’s and PVAC’s recommendations to Council on accessible taxis.

Accessible taxi services are included in the Integrated Accessibility Standards (Ontario Regulation 191/11).  (Section 79 specifically refers to on demand accessible taxis, Section 80 refers to other accessible taxi requirements.)

To provide your input on experiences with accessible taxi services contact the City of Mississauga's Citizen Contact Centre to provide information on specific customer service incidents including date, time, location, vehicle number and taxi service provider:

December 3, 2013 is International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The United Nations designates this day each year to provide an opportunity to address exclusion of people with disabilities by promoting accessibility and removing all types of barriers in society.

The City of Mississauga's Accessibility Plan details the goals set out by the City to ensure continued improvements for a more accessible Mississauga.  More information about MiWay accessibility is in MiWay's Accessibility Plan. Find out more at
