Mayor's Statement - Ice Storm

Dec 22, 2013

The City is continuing to deal with the effects of the ice storm that began yesterday evening.  I’d like to thank residents who have cooperated and stayed off the roads.  Please continue to take extreme caution if you are out in the city.

All City staff have been on the job throughout this event to ensure the safety of our citizens. Forestry crews will continue to attend to priority areas where trees are blocking access to roadways and proving to be unsafe.  Their priority is to ensure roads accessible to emergency vehicles. It will take time to remove fallen tree debris on the streets so please be patient.

Use extreme caution around trees as branches will continue to break unexpectedly.

The City has warming centres at the Civic Centre (300 City Centre Drive) and the Meadowvale Community Centre (6655 Glen Erin Dr.) available for those who may not have heat.  They are open overnight until tomorrow noon.

We will be cleaning up from this storm for some time.  I’d like to ask for your patience as we work to restore power and City services that have been disrupted.   Please visit our website at or follow us on Twitter for updates or contact our 3-1-1 Citizen Contact Centre.
