During this morning’s meeting of Council, 136 City of Mississauga employees were honoured with internal Corporate Awards for Excellence for outstanding achievements in 2013.
“The achievements of our employees are part of what makes Mississauga remain a municipal leader,” said Janice Baker, City Manager and CAO. “Our corporate awards program is an opportunity to highlight these accomplishments and showcase our successes.”
The Corporate Awards For Excellence are presented annually, in nine different categories. The award categories and 2013 recipients are:
1. Customer Service Award
Given to an individual and/or team who has consistently "gone the extra mile" to earn the respect, support and appreciation of their customers.
Individual: Helen Roane, Library Assistant at the Malton Library
Team: Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services Life Saving EpiPen Program Team
2. Award for Innovative Business Solutions
Given to an individual and team who bring about significant change through their innovation and creativity, demonstrating business solutions that are impactful in our corporation.
Recipient: Bring Your Own Device Team
3. Brenda Sakauye Environment Award
Honouring the memory of former employee Brenda Sakauye, this award will be given to an individual or team who has made an innovative or significant environmental contribution by advancing Mississauga’s Living Green Master Plan, as well as the environmental aspects of the Strategic Plan.
Individual: Nicole Fitz-Henry, Project Leader, Energy Management Awareness & Controls, Facilities and Property Management
Team: Credit River Parks Strategy Team
4. Leadership & Empowerment Award
Given to an individual at any level of the Corporation, who through leadership and vision has inspired staff by gaining their commitment, making them feel valued and by building effective teams.
Recipient: Julie Mitchell, Facility Manager, Clarkson and Port Credit, Recreation Division
5. Team Effectiveness Award
Given to a team that successfully achieves superior results through group effort over the past year.
Recipient: Emerald Ash Borer Project Team
6. Community Partnership Award
Given to employees who engage in a joint project or event with an external organization, association, service group or level of government where the outcome has demonstrated mutual benefit.
Recipient: Heart House Hospice/Pheasant Run Project Team
7. Kirk French Spirit Award
Honouring the memory of former employee Kirk French, the Spirit award is meant to recognize individuals who are able to lift the spirits of their co-workers with their positive outlook toward their job and life in general. This award will be given to an individual who exemplifies a love of life, adds laughter and vitality to the workplace and enriches the lives of others.
Recipient: Kelly Bianchi, Operations Assistant, Malton Transit Facility, MiWay
8. City Manager’s Award of Excellence
Presented to the employee or team that has demonstrated outstanding qualities of excellence in their work during the past year.
Recipient: Second Units Team
9. New! Emerging Leader Award
Given to an individual who demonstrates innovative leadership qualities in their first three years of employment with the City of Mississauga.
Recipient: Andrew Whittemore, Acting Director, Culture
