City's Environmental Services Team Receives National Co-op Employer of the Year Award

The University of Guelph awarded the City of Mississauga's Environmental Services team its National Co-op Employer of the Year Award for 2015.
"Receiving this award demonstrates Mississauga’s ongoing support and commitment to the University of Guelph’s Co-operative Education Program while allowing the City to strengthen its efforts in the areas of environmental responsibility and stewardship,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “By hiring students from the University of Guelph, we can continue to grow and empower those working in the environmental field helping to make our city more environmentally sustainable for the future.”
Students have assisted with community outreach programs and environmental investigations while supporting the Environmental Services team.
“Our co-op students have been a valuable asset to our team,” said Helen Noehammer, Director Transportation and Infrastructure Planning. “Their participation has helped to bring a fresh perspective to our environmental programs including our new Stormwater Education and Outreach Program.”

Since 2002, the City has hired more than 60 students who have worked for the Environmental Services team.
About the University of Guelph National Co-op Employer of the Year Award Students, faculty and staff from the University of Guelph can nominate an employer who created a successful experiential learning opportunity for co-op students during any work term. Two co-op employers are selected and the employer with the highest overall score is awarded the National Co-op Employer of the Year Award.
