City of Mississauga Creates New Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Strategy

Oct 25, 2017

The City of Mississauga, in partnership with the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CCDI), has created a new Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Strategy. The Strategy will help ensure the City is well positioned to continue to provide excellent customer service, attract top talent, foster greater employee inclusion and engagement and incorporate changes in legislation.
“Our five-year Strategy is about strengthening what we already have and building on that foundation,” said Janice Baker, City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer. “Ensuring we recognize the uniqueness of all of our employees is important. We want our work environment to continue to be one that values and respects individuals for their talents, skills and ability; a respectful workplace that is accessible, equitable and fair for all.”
The Strategy focuses on four goals:
1. Creating a workplace that fosters a culture of diversity and inclusion
2. Attracting and retaining a diverse workforce with unique skills and abilities to create a workforce with a competitive advantage
3. Supporting leaders in modelling and promoting behaviours of a diverse and inclusive workplace
4. Creating and aligning processes, policies, plans, practice programs and services that meet the diverse needs of those we serve

“With more than 6,000 full-time and part-time employees, we want to have the right people in the proper role, in a supportive environment,” said Gary Kent, Commissioner of Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer. “Through our Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Strategy we will attract, engage and retain the best talent.”
Implementation will begin this year and will continue into 2021. Learn more about the City’s Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.
