Yesterday at Council, the City of Mississauga presented the United Way of Peel Region with a cheque for $186,081; the total raised during the 2013 United Way Employee Campaign.
Following the cheque presentation, Shelley White, Chief Executive Officer of the United Way of Peel Region, presented the United Way Community Builder award to Mayor Hazel McCallion. This award recognizes a company, organization or individual that has led the United Way to new levels of innovation and impact through its Give, Volunteer and Act efforts.
“I am honoured to receive the Community Builder award from an organization that does so much to improve the lives of local people in need,” said McCallion. “I hope that my efforts and the efforts of City employees inspire more people to give to the United Way of Peel Region.”
The 2013 Employee Campaign included a variety of fundraising events and an internal pledge blitz where City staff were encouraged to commit to a year-round donation.
“I am so proud of the dollars raised by our employees in support of the United Way of Peel Region,” said Janice Baker, Mississauga City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer. “The United Way strengthens the network of social services and non-profit organizations in our community, which is why it is so important that we support its efforts.”
The amount raised in the 2013 Employee Campaign exceeded the goal by more than $6,000.
The City of Mississauga has been involved in the United Way of Peel Region’s fundraising campaign for more than a decade and has raised more than $2.6 million to date.
