The City of Mississauga has been recognized by the Canadian Forces Liaison Council (CFLC) with the 2015 Best Practices Award. The City was presented with the award by the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario at the 11th Biennial Ontario Provincial Employer Support awards ceremony last night.
The award recognizes organizations for their outstanding support to members of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves. There are many current and former serving military members who work at the City of Mississauga. The City has implemented programs to actively support staff who need to fulfil duties in the reserve of the Canadian Forces such as the reservists leave policy and a new veterans hiring initiative.
“The men and women of our Canadian Armed Forces Reserves include some of Canada’s best and brightest professionals, and I am proud several of these individuals are part of the team at the City of Mississauga,” Mayor Bonnie Crombie said. “Our military member employees have a wealth of knowledge; exceptional experience; and important training and skillsets all essential to successfully carry out workplace responsibilities at the City of Mississauga,” Mayor Crombie added.
“It is an honor to be recognized with such a prestigious award. We are proud to have several military members working for the City of Mississauga and we will continue to support them in their service to our country,” said City Manager Janice Baker.
