Mississauga is the official host city for the 2016 Ontario Summer Games, taking place August 11 to 14. Athletes, ages 13 to 17, from all regions of Ontario will compete against fellow provincial athletes. With less than six months to go, the City is assembling its volunteer team and is taking applications.
Games volunteers will be part of the largest event in Ontario Games history as they welcome 3,500 athletes, 500 officials, 700 coaches and managers and many visitors and spectators from around the province to Mississauga. Becoming a volunteer is a great way to earn high school volunteer hours, build lasting relationships and engage and inspire the community.
More than 1,000 volunteers will be required for roles like welcoming athletes, their families and coaches, working at Games venues, providing information for spectators and helping members of the media and dignitaries.
All Ontario Summer Games volunteers must:
• be 16 years of age or older;
• pass a Police Vulnerable Records Check;
• be available during August 11 to 14 inclusive; and
• available to attend an orientation session on one of the following evenings: July 25, 26, or 27.
The 2016 Ontario Summer Games will combine both winter and summer sporting events together. These Games will showcase 34 sporting events staged at 20 locations throughout Mississauga and a few other neighbouring municipalities.
