The Mississauga Library Board and Mississauga City Council ratified a four-year collective agreement with Library Union CUPE Local 1989.
"It is great to have our employees going back to work so our libraries can reopen,” said Janice Baker, City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer. “We know that residents will be excited to take advantage of library programming, facilities and services.”
The terms of the memorandum of settlement, ratified by CUPE Local 1989, the Mississauga Library Board and City Council include:
- An increase in the Page wage rate to $15 per hour, effective September 1, 2015.
- Annual general wage increases, over four years:
- 0 per cent (effective April 1, 2015)
- 1.75 per cent (effective October 1, 2015) (excluding Pages)
- 1.75 per cent (effective April 1, 2016)
- 1.75 per cent (effective April 1, 2017)
- 1.75 per cent (effective April 1, 2018)
“Delaying the effective date of wage increases in 2015 covered the cost of additional annual wage increases in 2016-18. This agreement is fair to both employees and taxpayers,” said Baker.
- All City of Mississauga Library facilities will reopen with regular hours at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016.
- Book drops will be open by 3 p.m. today (July 26)
- Late fines for material due during the strike are waived until August 17, 2016.
- Regular programming will resume on July 28, 2016.
The City of Mississauga and Library Union CUPE Local 1989 reached a tentative memorandum of settlement on July 21, 2016. CUPE Local 1989 ratified the collective agreement on July 25, 2016.
