The City of Mississauga has appointed Al Steinbach as Director, Internal Audit, effective March 27, 2017 following a hiring competition. Steinbach has been the City’s Senior Internal Auditor for the past 19 years.
"I am pleased to have Al join our extended leadership team as our newest director," said Janice Baker, City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer. "With more than 35 years of experience in accounting and audit, most of them with the City of Mississauga, Al brings extensive knowledge and a wealth of experience evaluating and managing risk across all our lines of business."
Reporting to the City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer, Steinbach will be responsible for managing all business functions of the Internal Audit Division as well as assessing the City’s risk management, control and governance processes as required by both the City of Mississauga’s Internal Audit Charter, policies and procedures and external professional standards for auditing and risk management.
Steinbach joined the City as an Internal Auditor in 1989 and became a Senior Internal Auditor in 1998. Prior to joining the City of Mississauga Steinbach held progressively responsible and varied positions in operations, accounting and internal audit with the Steel Company of Canada (Stelco). Steinbach holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA). He also holds Certification in Risk Management and Assurance from the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). Professional memberships include the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario, the Institute of Internal Auditors and the Municipal Internal Auditors Association of Ontario.
