City Celebrates Seniors' Month and OSG 55+ Countdown on June 5

On June 5, the City will celebrate Seniors’ Month with the annual Mississauga Older Adult Expo. This year, the event will also mark the official countdown to the Ontario 55+ Summer Games, taking place from August 10 to 12 in Mississauga.

Over 2,000 older adults from across Mississauga will attend and learn about the City’s fitness and technology programs and services and meet over 60 exhibitors. Participants will have the opportunity to sign up as a Games volunteer, participate in fitness demonstrations, attend technology device advice and engage in a Safety Seminar from Peel Regional Police. Attendees can also participate in the ‘try-it’ featured sports, win prizes and listen to great entertainment from The Peppershakers. MiWay will provide limited shuttle buses at community centres across Mississauga to make travel easier for older adults.

About Mississauga Older Adult Expo
Each year in June, the Government of Ontario celebrates and recognizes the contributions seniors make to our communities. 2018 marks the 34th annual Seniors’ Month in Ontario. The City of Mississauga celebrates Seniors’ Month each year by hosting its annual Older Adult Expo to create awareness about recreation opportunities.

About Ontario 55+ Games
The 2018 Ontario 55+ Summer Games take place in Mississauga from August 10 to 12, 2018. Approximately 1,400 participants 55 years or older from across Ontario will compete in active and passive activities including pickleball, cycling, euchre, tennis and more.

The Ontario 55+ Games is a celebration of active living hosted every year (alternating between Winter and Summer) for individuals in Ontario who are 55 years of age or older. The Ontario 55+ Summer Games, first held in Kitchener in 1986, are hosted on even-numbered years and bring together approximately 1,400 participants in August. The Ontario 55+ Winter Games, first held in Collingwood in 2000, are hosted on odd-numbered years and are held in February with approximately 1,000 participants.
