May 17, 2012

Congestion is impacting residents, businesses and the economy and the City of Mississauga is taking action by organizing a Mississauga Transportation Forum on May 22 to address this serious issue.

“This transportation forum is designed to generate discussion about alternative funding opportunities that will allow the City to continue delivering transportation improvements,” said Martin Powell, commissioner Transportation and Works Department.

Key stakeholders representing community groups, the business community and officials from various levels of government have been invited to take part in the “Mississauga Transportation Forum – The Case for Investment.”

The media are invited to attend this discussion about funding and transportation. Guest speakers:
• Bruce McCuaig, president & chief executive officer, Metrolinx
• Martin Powell, commissioner, Mississauga Transportation and Works
• John Howe, vice president investment strategy and project evaluation, Metrolinx
• Ron J. Aitken, vice president transit and rail systems, SNC Lavalin.

Powell added the forum is the outcome of a recommendation at Council last year to organize a workshop based on the staff report, “Moving Mississauga: From Vision to Action – Mississauga’s Draft Interim Transportation Strategy.”

The Mississauga Transportation Forum will take place on Tuesday, May 22 from 8 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at the City’s Living Arts Centre in the BMO Room.
