Mississauga Turns the Spotlight on Community Volunteers and Achievers

Mayor Bonnie Crombie and Members of Council will honour residents and organizations whose volunteer work and achievements make the City of Mississauga a great place to live, work and play.

More than 80 eligible nominees will receive a Civic Award of Recognition in one of the four following categories:

Voluntary Community Service
Individuals or groups that have improved the quality of life in our community through volunteer efforts.

Youth Community and Civic Engagement
Youth between 14 and 24 who have contributed more than 100 voluntary hours to community or civic activities.

Achievement in Sports
Athletes or teams that have won championships at a city-wide, regional, provincial, national or international level.

Achievement in Arts
Artists or arts groups that have won competitions, juried shows or exhibitions. Outstanding accomplishments in academic fields may also be recognized.

Tuesday, June 11, 2019
Ceremony in Council Chamber: 7 to 8 p.m.
Reception in Great Hall with music by Jammer’s Waffle House: 8 to 9 p.m.

2019 Civic Recognition Award recipients

This year the award ceremony will be live streamed from 7 to 8 p.m. on the City’s website at mississagua.ca/livestreaming.

Mississauga is an inclusive city that welcomes diversity and encourages residents of all ages and backgrounds to take part in civic life. Launched in 1992, the Civic Recognition Program recognizes outstanding achievements, community volunteers and important milestones of residents and community groups. Mayor Crombie and Members of Council honour award recipients at a special ceremony each year.

The Civic Recognition Program also includes the Certificate of Recognition, Civic Award of Merit and Civic Award of Philanthropy.
