The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) presented Mayor Hazel McCallion with an
award for outstanding service in municipal politics during the FCM's Conference and Municipal
Expo in Quebec City.
"It is an honour to be recognized by the FCM," said Mayor Hazel McCallion. "I
hope I have made a small contribution as a woman in politics and have encouraged other women to
run for office. It has been an exciting journey for me and I thank the dedicated staff and
Council I have had the good fortune to work with over the years. One person cannot do it alone.
I look forward to working with my colleagues in government and staff on our biggest challenges
for municipalities - remaining competitive globally and sustainability."
The award was presented for her contributions in Mississauga as well as provincial and national
political arenas through her participation in the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and
as a Mayor in the FCM's Big City Mayors' Caucus. She was also recognized as a model for women
as an elected official and for mentoring women who want to run for elected office.
