City of Mississauga Receives Top Finance Award

Apr 22, 2009

Today at Council, the City of Mississauga was presented with the “Canadian Award for Financial Reporting” (CAFR) from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), for 2007 Financial Reporting. This is the eleventh year the City has been honoured with this award

“We’re proud to be recognized once again,” said Commissioner of Corporate Services and Treasurer Brenda Breault.  “It really reinforces the City’s commitment to prudent financial management and government accounting.”

The award was presented by Mayor Hazel McCallion to Rob Rossini, Director of Finance, Mark Beauparlant, Manager of Corporate Financial Services, and their staff.

The CAFR program encourages Canadian municipal governments to publish high-quality financial reports and provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports. “Achievement of this award outlines the dedication by the City of Mississauga to implement these quality practices,” said Breault.

The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving 15,000 government finance professionals in the United States and Canada, with offices in Chicago, Illinois and Washington, D.C.

Mississauga is Canada’s sixth largest city with a population of more than 700,000.  With well-established infrastructure and state-of-the-art facilities, the City is considered to be an employer of choice, delivering quality municipal programs and services to its citizens.  Mississauga is a dynamic, diverse, and progressive municipality, known for its economic strength and for being recognized as Canada’s safest city.
