On Wednesday, July 1, 2009, from 1 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., the City will once again provide a free all day and evening event including:

  • Citizenship Court Ceremony in the Council Chamber at 10:30 a.m.
  • Opening ceremony at 1 p.m. with Mayor Hazel McCallion, Members of Council and host Jake Dheer from Rogers TV
  • Bob the Builder sponsored by Square One
  • Mountain Bike Trixs and Slam Jam Dunk Show
  • Kids’ Fun at Square One
  • Opera Luminata featuring music, pyrotechnics and special effects in the Living Arts Centre
  • Evening program hosted by Mike Bullard with concerts and fireworks accompanied by music broadcasted live on CINA 1650 AM

In keeping with the City’s Living Green strategic pillar, the Canada Day celebration is offering free transit across the city sponsored by Smart Commute Mississauga, a place to store bicycles at City Centre, and diesel-free vendors.

“Together, with support from our sponsors and the Canada Day Committee of Council, the City is able to offer a free all day event highlighting exciting activities and impressive performances for the whole family to enjoy,” says Carolyn Parrish, Ward 6 Councillor and Canada Day Steering Committee Chair. “In addition, with help from the community, the City is also proud to support local charities like the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Peel and the Mississauga Hockey League Play-More Hockey Program."
