City of Mississauga Canada Day Celebration: A Lineup of Free Family Fun and Fireworks

The City of Mississauga is celebrating Canada Day at City Centre on July 1 with an exciting lineup of free live performances including country star Marshall Dane, pop star Eva Avila and Canadian music icon Gord Downie and the Country of Miracles, followed by a fireworks extravaganza sponsored by Metro.

“Canada Day is one of our most significant events of the year,” said Mayor Hazel McCallion.  “The growth of this event reflects the growth of our city; it’s what makes Mississauga a place where people choose to be on Canada Day.”

Citizenship Court:
Join Mayor Hazel McCallion, Members of Council and presiding Judge Mina Yung-Fung as they welcome 100 of Canada’s newest citizens during the annual Canada Day Citizenship Court Ceremony being held in the Council Chamber at 10:30 a.m.

Family Activities:
Canada Day festivities get underway at 1 p.m. with emcee Global News Reporter Antony Robart. 

Free kids’ activities presented by Square One Shopping Centre include:
- The Magic of Rick Rossini
- Splash’N Boots
- Face painting
- Rock climbing wall
- Mini-car circuit

Activities at the Living Arts Centre include:
- Slam Jam Air and Extreme Trampoline Show
- Aristov Acrobats

Official Ceremony and Live Entertainment:
The official ceremony will take place on the main stage at 5 p.m. with Mayor Hazel McCallion, and Members of Council.

Following the official ceremony, the evening portion will feature live performances on the main stage, featuring:
- Mike Bullard
- Country star Marshall Dane
- Pop star Eva Avila
- Canadian music icon Gord Downie and the Country of Miracles
-A fireworks display sponsored by Metro, with the soundtrack broadcast live on CINA 1650 AM

“We are thrilled to present another exciting Canada Day celebration at Mississauga City Centre this year,” said Carolyn Parrish, Ward 6 Councillor and Canada Day Steering Committee Chair.  “The committee has been working hard over the past several months, along with our sponsors and community partners, to bring Mississaugans an all-day, free, fun-filled celebration.  I am also proud to say the City is once again supporting local charities.  This year, Mississauga Hockey League Play-More Program and the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) Relief Food Bank will receive donations.”

The Canada Day Committee is an advisory committee of Council which makes recommendations to Council on matters relating to fundraising, coordination and programming for the Canada Day celebration at the City of Mississauga Civic Centre.

Canada Day will kick-off My Mississauga, the City’s summer-long festival of free events, activities and concerts for the entire family to enjoy.

Celebrations Across the City:
Malton, Port Credit and Streetsville are also hosting Canada Day celebrations on July 1.  For more information on these events, visit the event websites.

Road Closure Information
Road closures will be in effect in and around Mississauga City Centre from June 30 – July 1.  Please refer to the Mississauga Canada Day website for full details.  Limited public parking will be available at Square One Shopping Centre.  Patrons are encouraged to use alternate means of transportation to get around on Canada Day.

Green Ways to Get to Canada Day:
- Mississauga Transit is offering free transit on Canada Day from 7 a.m. to midnight to make it easy for patrons to get around the city.  Transit will run on holiday service and is available for all routes, except Route 88.
- Bike racks will also be available at the event.
