Celebrate Local Artistry: Culture Days Comes to Mississauga September 24-26

Local artists, creators, historians, architects and designers are set to showcase their handiwork at over 20 free events this weekend during the first-ever Culture Days Mississauga  

“Mississauga’s arts and culture community is rich in talent and innovation,” said Susan Burt, director, Culture Division.  “Culture Days is a great opportunity to cultivate and strengthen the artistic and historic fabric of our city.  Celebrations like this help define Mississauga as a premier culture destination.”

What: Culture Days Mississauga Kick-off Celebration
• Mingle with artists, creators, historians, architects, curators and designers as we kick off a weekend-long celebration offering free, hands-on interactive activities
• Enjoy a sampling of local music mixed by “pick-apart/put back together record thieves” Dj Zedvantz & Tha FREQ

When: Friday, September 24, 2010
  11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Where: Mississauga Civic Centre, Great Hall
           300 City Centre Drive
           (Duke of York Blvd. and Princess Royal Dr.)

Over 20 free community events, including poetry events, art exhibitions, heritage tours, dance and a wearable art showcase are being held throughout the city all weekend long. Culture Days is a collaborative pan-Canadian volunteer movement to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. Culture Days represents Canada’s largest arts and culture public participation campaign and was inspired by Journées de la culture, produced by Culture pour tous in Québec since 1997.
