Community To View New Mississauga Valley Therapeutic Pool Concept Design At Open House

Mar 28, 2011

Residents are invited to drop in at an open house to view the concept design for a new therapeutic pool addition to Terry Fox Pool at the Mississauga Valley Community Centre. City project design and program staff will be on hand to answer questions about the project.

Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Program Room 1
Mississauga Valley Community Centre
1275 Mississauga Valley Blvd.

The new 3,100 square foot, fully accessible, warm water, therapeutic pool addition will help provide local access to warm water therapeutic programs to meet the wellness needs of people in rehabilitation, the growing number of older adults in our community, and anyone who wants to include a gentle and effective exercise program in their lifestyle.

Special pool features:

* warm water (92 degrees)
* a relaxing hydrotherapy bench
* three feet to a maximum four feet two inches depth
* wheelchair ramp access
* wide shallow teaching steps
* pool lift and full body sling support lift available for those unable to use ramp access, and
* several water features such as dump bucket and rooster tails in shallow area (active for open swims)

The project is currently in the detail design stage. Construction will start this summer on the therapy pool keeping the main pool operational until the end of November, 2011. At that time the necessary repair work will begin on the main pool. Both the warm water therapeutic pool and the main pool will open in spring of 2012.
