Residents are invited to an open house to take a look at the plans for the redevelopment of the Don McLean Westacres outdoor pool.

When:
Thursday, April 11, 2013
6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Where:
St. Edmund Separate School
1250 Melton Drive
(Queensway East and Dixie Road)

Who:
Ward 1 Councillor Jim Tovey
City of Mississauga Recreation and Facilities & Property Management staff will be available to answer questions.

What:
The development and maintenance of recreational buildings, programs and services is a priority for the City. Don McLean Westacres Outdoor Pool is 47 years old and serves approximately 85,000 residents. Construction will update the pool’s systems to make more efficient use of energy and water and improve accessibility for residents of all ages.

Among other improvements, reinvesting in this outdoor pool and building will significantly expand the outdoor pool’s lifespan. It will include updating facility change rooms and washrooms, replacing the pool tank and pool deck and bringing the facility to Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) standards with the addition of two barrier-free parking spaces.

Construction will start mid-April. The pool will be closed for the 2013 season and will reopen for the 2014 outdoor pool season. Residents are invited to visit the City’s many indoor and outdoor pools during the Don McLean Westacres outdoor pool closure. For more information about pool openings and program schedules, go to www.mississauga.ca/aquatics.

Funding:
Project costs will be funded through the City of Mississauga’s Capital Budget program with support from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (www.feddevontario.gc.ca).

Why:
Through its Strategic Plan and the Community Services “Future Directions” plan for recreation, the City of Mississauga is committed to evaluating its programs and services as well as building and maintaining facilities and infrastructure to meet the changing needs of our community.
