City Shares Great Progress - 2012 Report on the Strategic Plan

Apr 25, 2013

At a presentation at Council yesterday the City of Mississauga shared its 2012 achievements with residents and stakeholders, as outlined in the 2012 Report on the Strategic Plan.

"This is the fourth year that we've shared our achievements based on the priorities set out in the Strategic Plan," said Janice Baker, city manager and CAO. "We've made great progress in four years on multiple actions in all five of our Strategic Pillars for Change."

The Report on the Strategic Plan highlights achievements under the five Pillars of Strategic Change: Move, Belong, Connect, Prosper and Green. Some of the 2012 achievements include:

· an announcement from Metrolinx that the Hurontario-Main Light Rail Transit project will be part of their next wave of projects in the regional transportation plan, the Big Move
· one million visitors to Mississauga Celebration Square
· the introduction of Inspiration Port Credit to develop plans for Port Credit's waterfront
· the conservation commitment to convert City streetlights to LED street lighting
· the development of an online culture resource map

"The Report on the Strategic Plan is part of a larger citizen reporting initiative," said Gary Kent, director of City Strategy and Innovations. "Reports will highlight progress of "master plans" and demonstrate the City's commitment to being extensive, inclusive and transparent."

According to the report the following "master plans" will provide the community with a 2012 progress report:
· Accessibility Plan
· Culture Plan
· Cycling Master Plan
· Economic Development Strategy
· Financial Report
· Fire Master Plan
· Living Green Master Plan
· Older Adult Strategy
· Youth Plan

"The positive change resulting from the Strategic Plan can be seen all around as Mississauga continues to attract people, employment and opportunities," added Baker.
