Apr 29, 2013

Residents are invited to an information session to take a look at plans and find out more about the redevelopment of River Grove Community Centre.

When:
Saturday, May 4, 2013
1 to 3 p.m.

Where:
Children’s Room
River Grove Community Centre
5800 River Grove Avenue
(River Grove Avenue and Britannia Road West)

Who:
City of Mississauga Recreation and Facilities & Property Management staff will be available to answer questions.

What:
The development and maintenance of recreational buildings, programs and services is a priority for the City. The renovation program of this facility includes a number of mechanical upgrades, and expanding change room and fitness space to respond to customer feedback and to meet the growing and changing demand for recreation programs and services.

The facility will be closed due to the nature of repairs throughout the community centre which will affect all areas of the building. Shutdown period is planned to start in June, 2013. The facility will open again when construction ends in July 2014.

During shutdown period, residents will have access to fitness and squash facilities at nearby Meadowvale Community Centre, and residents with fitness memberships will have access to programs and services throughout Mississauga. During the facility closure, alternate locations will be available for some programs. Long-term rental customers and affiliated older adult groups have been offered alternate locations where feasible. Customers are encouraged to consult the Active Mississauga Recreation Guide and www.mississauga.ca/recreation for program options.

Why:
Through its Strategic Plan and the Community Services “Future Directions” plan for recreation, the City of Mississauga is committed to evaluating its programs and services as well as building and maintaining facilities and infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of our community.

Background:
River Grove Community Centre was initially opened in September 1996, and has undergone minor repairs and renovations during the last 15 years. It currently is the highest facility for attendance in aquatic programs, membership, drop-in swim programs and rentals. It now consists of 67,000 square feet which includes a pool, play pool/hot tub and pool slide, fitness studio with aerobic studio and squash courts, meeting rooms (large auditorium/gymnasium combination) and lobby space.
