At todays General Committee meeting, the
Transportation and Works Department announced that the first year of its Car Share Service
Pilot Project has resulted in hundreds of trips taken by members.
The results of the first year of the Car Share
Service Pilot Project in the City of Mississauga are encouraging, said Martin Powell,
commissioner, Transportation and Works Department. The AutoShare service gives people
living, working or going to school in Downtown Mississauga the opportunity to choose a green
way to move.
Year One by the Numbers
- 43,468: number of total combined kilometers driven by all
car share users.
- 616: number of trips taken using the car share service by
Mississauga community members.
- Three: number of cars in the AutoShare Mississauga fleet.
This includes a third vehicle (Toyota Camry Hybrid) added to the fleet in April 2013 at no
additional cost to the City.
- 16: number of City of Mississauga internal divisions that
have used the car share service.
- 269: number of trips taken using the car share service by
40 City of Mississauga employees.
AutoShare is very pleased with the growth and success

The car share service, introduced in April 2012 and
provided by AutoShare Inc., allows registered members to book a vehicle, unlock it with a
membership smart card and later return the vehicle to the same parking space.
The pilot project aligns with the strategic pillars for
change, goals and actions put forth in the City of Mississaugas Strategic Plan. The car
share service helps to develop a transit oriented city, implement a parking strategy that
supports public transit and provide a variety of mobility choices.
