Celebrate Canada Day with These Kids Wear Crowns, Fefe Dobson and Shawn Desman on the Square!

Celebrate Canada’s 144th birthday with a dynamic line-up of free live performances including family friendly Fairly OddParents, rockers These Kids Wear Crowns, pop artist Fefe Dobson, and chart-topping Shawn Desman on the newly-renovated Mississauga Celebration Square.

“This is a very exciting Canada Day for the City of Mississauga,” said Mayor Hazel McCallion.  “We are proud to present a first-rate event on our new state-of-the-art Mississauga Celebration Square.  We are open for business and ready to let the celebrations begin!”

“I'm excited to perform at Mississauga Celebration Square on Canada Day,” said headline performer Shawn Desman.  “It’s going to be an amazing time! I’ll be performing some of my older hits as well as songs off my new album, Fresh. I look forward to celebrating this holiday with my fans."

Schedule of Events

10:30 a.m. Citizenship Court

Join Mayor McCallion, Members of Council and presiding Judge Mina Yung-Fung as they welcome more than 100 of Canada’s newest citizens during the annual Canada Day Citizenship Court Ceremony being held in the Council Chamber at 10:30 a.m.

1 p.m. Official Ceremony

Canada Day festivities on Mississauga Celebration Square get underway with the official ceremony, hosted by Global Toronto’s Bill Coulter and including Mayor Hazel McCallion, Members of Council and special guests.

Following the official ceremony, the City will welcome special guests from Kariya, Japan, who are attending to mark the 30th anniversary of their sister city relationship with Mississauga.  The guests will give a special performance following the official ceremony. 

1 – 10 p.m. Live Entertainment and Family Activities

Free family-friendly afternoon activities and performances include:

•        Aerial cirque show

•        Art, dance, and fusion performances

•        Fairly OddParents

 

Evening entertainment on the main stage features:

•        Rockers These Kids Wear Crowns

•        Pop artist Fefe Dobson

•        Chart-topping Shawn Desman

•        Fireworks extravaganza at 10:15 p.m.

CanadaDay Road Closures and MiWay Special Offer

Road closures will be in effect in and around Mississauga City Centre from June 30 – July 1.  Please refer to the Canada Day website for full details.  Limited public parking will be available at the Living Arts Centre underground lot. 

Patrons are encouraged to take MiWay to the Square on Canada Day.  MiWay is offering a Buy One, Get One Free special, allowing fare-paying passengers (using cash, tickets or passes) to bring a companion on board for free all day on July 1, 2011.  In addition, children (Grades 1 - 8) can ride free all day on Canada Day when accompanied by a fare paying passenger.

Port Credit and Streetsville are also hosting Canada Day celebrations on July 1.  For more information on these events, visit the event websites.

Canada Day is the kick off to the My Mississauga Summer Series - the City’s summer line-up of free events on the Square.  Located outside of Mississauga Civic Centre in the downtown core, Mississauga Celebration Square is a vibrant state-of-the-art multi-media event destination. The newly renovated Square will be host to a dynamic line-up of year-round free outdoor events and festivals that showcase arts, cultural diversity and entertainment.
