The City of Mississauga wants to know: Are you connected?

Oct 17, 2011

Are you connected to the City of Mississauga? If so, how? That's what City staff needs to find out as they develop a Communications Master Plan - a ten year plan that will provide recommendations to Council on how best to support communications between the City and its citizens.

As part of this process, the City is encouraging the public to complete a quick survey on the City web site: www.mississauga.ca

The survey will be online until October 27; it will provide insight into current City communication channels and gives the opportunity for citizens to provide anonymous feedback. Hard copies of the survey are available upon request.

"There is no question the world of communications is rapidly changing with web-based and social media channels," said Director of Communications Ivana Di Millo. "At the same time, the face of Mississauga is also changing and growing; there is an increased demand from our community to receive information in various formats that are most convenient to them."

Di Millo added the City's Communications team is already sending information to different citizens across many channels (print, web, digital, social and face-to-face) to ensure communications are timely and relevant.  "The question is: which channels are the most effective ones and for who?  We need to address the technology challenges and increased citizen demand for new communication channels with the current resources we have," she said.

"The changing demographic landscape of our community combined with unprecedented changes in the field of communications has made the need for a Communications Master Plan imperative," said Di Millo.

The draft plan with recommendations is expected to be before Council for comment before year-end.

As Canada's sixth largest city, Mississauga is home to 734,000 residents and 55,000 businesses, including 63 Fortune 500 companies with Canadian head offices or major divisional head offices. A diverse, progressive and award-winning municipality located on the shores of Lake Ontario in the heart of the Greater Toronto Area, Mississauga is "Leading Today for Tomorrow" by focussing on delivering services, implementing its Strategic Plan, delivering value for money, maintaining infrastructure and continuing to be an employer of choice.
