The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario presented the FCA (Fellow of the Institute
of Chartered Accountants of Ontario) designation to Mississaugas City Manager and CAO,
Janice Baker at a ceremony last night in Toronto.
Fellowship is the highest designation that the Institute confers, in recognition of
outstanding career achievements and leadership contributions to the community and the
profession, said Rod Barr, FCA, President and CEO of the Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Ontario. Janice has demonstrated excellence in all of those areas
throughout her career, making her a great resource to the institute.
This is a tremendous honour, said Mississauga City Manager and CAO, Janice Baker.
It is through the support of Members of Council and the City of Mississauga that I have
been given the opportunity to participate on municipal associations and community boards, which
have helped us build the reputation of fiscal responsibility that we are known for.
Baker became City Manager and CAO of the City of Mississauga in 2005. She joined the City in
1999 as Commissioner of Corporate Services and Treasurer.
FCA elections are held every two years and any Institute member may submit a nomination, which
culminates in a secret ballot vote by the Council. Rigorous criteria make the FCA designation a
special honour. To receive this senior designation, a Chartered Accountant is required to have
brought distinction to the profession through significant accomplishments in a number of
professionally and socially important ways. Less than 2.8 per cent of Ontarios over
35,000 Chartered Accountants have been elected to the Fellowship.
As Canada's sixth largest city, Mississauga is home to 734,000 residents and 55,000 businesses,
including 63 Fortune 500 companies with Canadian head offices or major divisional head offices.
A diverse, progressive and award-winning municipality located on the shores of Lake Ontario in
the heart of the Greater Toronto Area, Mississauga is "Leading Today for Tomorrow" by
focussing on delivering services, implementing its Strategic Plan, delivering value for money,
maintaining infrastructure and continuing to be an employer of choice.
