Hershey Centre’s New Dome Doubles Indoor Sports Fields for Winter Season

Jan 23, 2012

A new dome constructed over one of the outdoor artificial turf fields at the City of Mississauga's Hershey Centre doubles the facility's indoor sports fields for the winter season.

"Our new indoor training facility is a welcome addition and centre for athlete training in the off season and complements the successful programs already offered at the Sports Complex," said John Rydzewski, director, Hershey SportZone. "The addition of the dome has doubled the indoor field turf capacity at the Hershey SportZone allowing for more youth and adult programming as well as training time for our local community-based sports organizations giving athletes of all ages every opportunity to develop to their full potential."

For 2012, the dome will be open March 3 to the end of April when it will be removed to allow for regular outdoor play. Starting in 2013, the operating season for the dome will be mid November to mid April, weather permitting.

The field covered by the dome measures 100 metres (approximately 328 feet) in length and 64 metres (approximately 209 feet) in width and 22.5 metres (approximately 74 feet) at the apex of the roof.
