On March 7, 2012, City Council extended Mississauga's
Interim Control Bylaw, continuing the hold on development applications in part of the
"The City needed to put a hold on development applications last year to allow time to
study what types of development would be most appropriate for Downtown Mississauga," said
Ed Sajecki, the City's commissioner of Planning & Building. "We needed to ensure that
development projects in the area were in keeping with the Downtown21 Master Plan."
The Downtown21 Master
Plan, Mississauga's vision for a vibrant, walkable, compact and transit-oriented downtown,
completed in 2010, is a key priority in the City's Strategic Plan.
While the study was completed, the bylaw has been extended for one year to allow the City to
hold public consultations, as well as finalize the Official Plan policies, a zoning regulation
and design standards for Council's consideration.
- The lands included are bounded by Centre View Drive and Rathburn Road East to the north,
Hurontario Street to the east, Webb Drive to the south. The western boundary is Duke of York
Boulevard, except for the area north of Rathburn Road West, which extends to Confederation
- Zoning bylaws specify the uses and regulations on all land and property in the city,
including how land is used, the size, dimensions, height and where types of buildings
(residential, industrial, commercial or office uses) are located.
