Keep Your Family Safe and Be Prepared

The City of Mississauga encourages residents to plan ahead and be prepared in the event of an emergency.  Learn how you can prepare your family by attending the many events occurring across the city from May 6 to 12 during Emergency Preparedness Week (EPW).

“Emergencies can happen anywhere at any time,” said Catherine Blair, the City of Mississauga’s Emergency Management Coordinator.  “A home preparedness kit, containing necessary supplies, and a family emergency plan can make the difference in a critical situation and help keep families safe if the need arises.” 

What:
Emergency Preparedness Week:
The City of Mississauga’s Emergency Management Office will host a community event featuring interactive displays, demonstrations, children’s activities including an appearance from Buzz the Preparedness Bee at Erin Mills Town Centre.  Residents can enter a draw for a chance to win a Canadian Red Cross home emergency preparedness kit. 
Visit the City's website to see where Buzz the Preparedness Bee will be at your local library between May 6 to12.

Background:
Emergency Preparedness Week is an annual event that takes place during the first full week of May. It is acknowledged locally through a partnership with Emergency Management Ontario.  During Emergency Preparedness Week, activities are organized across Canada to raise awareness of the importance of having an emergency kit, making an emergency plan and identifying risks in your community.
