Public Works Services: Making Your Daily Commute Possible

May 16, 2012

It's time to showcase public works in the City of Mississauga including painted road lines, traffic signals, storm drainage, road construction/maintenance, and the daily operation of MiWay. These essential services help make daily commutes possible and will be highlighted during National Public Works Week (NPWW).

"Our Transportation and Works department is committed to providing our residents with the essential services that make daily tasks easier," said Martin Powell, commissioner, Transportation and Works Department. "I encourage you to join us in celebrating National Public Works Week by learning more about the role of public works and participating in free tours of our facilities."

National Public Works Week Events – May 23-26

Last year, the City of Mississauga received an award from the Canadian Public Works Association for their 2011 NPWW events. The NPWW began in the 1960s and each year in mid-May it is celebrated across Canada and the United States.

As Canada's sixth largest city, Mississauga is home to 738,000 residents and 55,000 businesses, including 63 Fortune 500 companies with Canadian head offices or major divisional head offices. A diverse, progressive and award-winning municipality located on the shores of Lake Ontario in the heart of the Greater Toronto Area, Mississauga is "Leading Today for Tomorrow" by focussing on delivering services, implementing its Strategic Plan, delivering value for money and maintaining infrastructure.
