City of Mississauga Receives Top Accolades for Communications

The City of Mississauga's Communications Division was recognized three times by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) this year; the awards were presented at City Council today.

"The Gold Quill is the highest honour a communications professional can receive," said Brenda Breault, commissioner and treasurer, Corporate Services. "With more than 558 entries received and a Blue Ribbon panel of international judges, we are proud of the recognition received for the work done on the City's first Communications Master Plan."

The City of Mississauga's Communications Division received:

IABC Gold Quill: Award of Merit in the Category of Strategic Communications Processes - Development of the City of Mississauga's Communications Master Plan
Project Manager, Sonja Banic, ABC, Manager of Public Affairs
Ivana Di Millo, Director of Communications
Consultants: Argyle Communications: Daniel Tisch, APR, FCPRS; Roanne Argyle; Sarbjit Kaur; Debra Chan

Breault noted that Banic, Di Millo and Tisch were honoured at the IABC international conference in Chicago, Illinois last week where they received the Gold Quill. They were also invited to conduct a session on Developing a 10-year Communications Master Plan at the conference.

This team also received the IABC Toronto Chapter's Ovation Award of Merit - Development of the City of Mississauga's Communications Master Plan.

In addition, the Communications Division received another IABC Toronto Chapter award:
Award of Excellence in the category of Communication Management–Special Events with budget up to $50K for the Official Opening of Mississauga Celebration Square
Project Lead, Sandra Desrochers, Public Affairs Specialist
Ivana Di Millo, Director of Communications
Sonja Banic, ABC, Manager of Public Affairs
Mary Tomasi, Public Affairs Event Coordinator
Ben De Santis, Media Screens Coordinator

"To be recognized by their industry for their creativity and innovation is a tremendous achievement for our employees," said Breault. "This recognition also showcases the City of Mississauga's commitment to excellence when it comes to communicating with our citizens."
