The City of Mississauga announces the appointment of Susan Amring as director, Economic
Development effective September 10, 2012. She replaces Larry Petovello who is retiring at the
end of September.
"We are so pleased to have Susan in this leadership position at the City of
Mississauga," said Janice Baker, city manager and CAO. "Susan has a long and
successful track record in championing economic growth and prosperity for the city."
Amring has held numerous management positions in the Economic Development Office in the areas
of business development and business attraction. Her most recent position was manager, Economic
Development where she was directly responsible for the planning, managing and delivery of
effective business development, research and creative marketing initiatives that support
economic development strategic objectives.
She is a Certified Economic Developer (Ec.D.) by the Economic Developers Association of Canada
and has a Certificate in Economic Development and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies (BES),
from the University of Waterloo.
"I take pride in helping to build the city that is Mississauga today," said Amring.
"I am an ambassador and champion of Mississauga and have developed many on-going
relationships with important economic development stakeholders over the years. It is my desire
to continue to serve this city with passion and commitment."
Her professional memberships include the Economic Development Council of Ontario (EDCO), the
Economic Development Association of Canada (EDAC), and the International Economic Development
Council (IEDC). She has held board positions with the International Association of Corporate
Real Estate and EDCO and is currently serving as an advisory committee member for the Research,
Innovation, Commercialization (RIC) Centre in Mississauga, a resource committee member for
Advantage Mississauga and a member of the United Way of Peel Campaign Cabinet
Amring began her career with the City in 1981 as a planner and continued on in leadership roles
in the Mayor's Office, Communications and Economic Development.
