This morning at 12:30 a.m. Mississauga Fire & Emergency Services (MFES) responded to a
high rise fire at 50 Mississauga Valley Blvd.
Upon arrival, MFES discovered an electrical fire on the third floor. The fire was quickly
brought under control.
Approximately 100 residents were directed to MiWay transit buses and the Mississauga Valley
Community Centre, which provided emergency shelter. The community centre gym was set up to
support residents. The City coordinated assistance through the Region of Peel. Red Cross and
Salvation Army staff are on site to assist, as well as City Animal Services.
Power has been restored to some residences.
Residents have been updated on building status and escorted back into the building. They will
be allowed to stay with a fire watch in effect and extra security being brought in by the
MFES has completed most operations.
Ultimate restoration to HVAC systems may take days. Other electrical systems not already on
could be restored today.
Anyone still requiring housing assistance should call Region of Peel at 905-791-7800.
