City of Mississauga Announces New Commissioner

City Manager and CAO Janice Baker announced today the appointment of Gary Kent as the new Commissioner of Corporate Services for the City of Mississauga, effective September 3, 2013.

"On behalf of the corporation, I am pleased to have Gary join the City’s administrative leadership team," said Janice Baker. "With more than 18 years of service with Mississauga, Gary has a solid foundation and extensive knowledge of the City’s business operations and strategic vision."

Kent first joined the City of Mississauga in 1995. Throughout his career he has held numerous leadership positions including Management Consultant (1995-1998), Business Development Manager for MiWay (1998-2001), Business Planning Manager for the Community Services Department (2001-2004), Director of Finance (acting role, 5 months 2009) and most recently as the Director of City Strategy, Innovation and Senior Advisor (2004-2013).

Prior to moving to Canada with his family, Kent was Finance Manager with a large transit organization in the private sector.

As commissioner of Corporate Services, Kent will oversee the Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Facilities and Property Management, Legislative Services, Communications and Revenue and Materiel Management divisions.

"In his new role, I expect that Gary will continue to apply the strategic thinking and outstanding people leadership he has become known for in our organization. He will ensure we continue to deliver our programs and services efficiently and effectively using innovative business solutions," said Baker.

Kent graduated from the Glasgow Caledonian University with a Bachelor of Arts (accountancy) degree and his professional memberships include the International City Manager’s Association, the Institute of Public Administrators of Canada and the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators.

He has been active in the community as a volunteer and currently sits as a director on the Research Innovation Commercialization Centre Board.

Kent is replacing current Commissioner Brenda Breault who announced she is retiring at the end of August.
