Today at Council, Ward 9 Councillor Pat Saito was presented with the International Crime
Prevention Ambassador Award from the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners
(ISCPP), in recognition of her contributions to local, provincial, national and international
I am honoured and pleased to be recognized by ISCPP for my contributions to an area in
which I have always had a great interest. said Councillor Saito. Working to
prevent crime in our City has always been a priority for me and to receive this award from such
a respected organization for doing something I believe in is a bonus.
Councillor Saito has been involved in crime prevention initiatives for more than 20 years. She
initiated and chaired the Peel Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Committee (CPTED)
and was instrumental in founding the Mississauga Crime Prevention Association, now Safe City
Mississauga on which she still sits as a board member. She initiated and serves as Vice
Chair on the Peel Youth Violence Prevention Network to develop a strategy for youth crime
prevention. She was also the Mississauga representative on the Peel Police Internet Safety
In 2006, her contributions were recognized by Peel Regional Police who awarded her the
prestigious Robert Boyne Award for Crime Prevention.
Since 1977, the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners (ISCPP) has continued
its mission for the reduction and control of criminal opportunity and victimization by:
encouraging crime prevention education and practice in public, private and voluntary sectors;
supporting and guiding crime prevention programs and activities; aiding the development and
establishment of crime prevention programs; responding to the needs of the crime prevention
practitioner; and stimulating the exchange of ideas among ISCPP members.
