Today Council approved amendments to the City's Business Licensing By-law 1-06 to license personal services businesses such as body piercing, tattooing, hairdressing, barbering, manicure, pedicure and other services.
"The City of Mississauga received a request from the Region of Peel’s Medical Officer of Health to license personal services businesses,” said Mickey Frost, director, Enforcement. “The licensing requirements will be enforced in co-operation with Peel Public Health staff to help reduce the risk of infections and blood-borne diseases from these services.”
Personal services businesses are businesses where aesthetic services such as body piercing, tattooing, hairdressing, barbering, manicure, pedicure and other services are provided, where there is a risk of exposure to blood.
Frost explains, Peel Public Health inspects these businesses, as required by the province’s Public Health Standards. The Region of Peel is only able to do these inspections if businesses can be identified. Licensing of personal services businesses will assist with identification.
