MISSISSAUGA, September 15, 2003 -- Today the members of the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) will present Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion with one of the industry's top awards, the 2003 Leadership Award for Public Service.
The award recognizes an elected official or public sector administrator who has served as a committed economic development advocate and acknowledges McCallion's more than 10 years of leadership and dedication to addressing economic development issues in Mississauga and throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and internationally.
"As the award says, Mayor McCallion exemplifies the depth and breadth of a true calling to public service," said City Manager Dave O'Brien. "She has worked relentlessly since 1992 to bring together diverse groups of elected officials from the GTA to collaborate on key economic issues for the benefit of everyone in the greater region, and her leadership has been instrumental in bringing companies and economic investment to Canada."
The award will be presented to McCallion at a reception in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the Council's annual conference. For more information contact Dave Brown, manager, Business Development at 905-896-5445.
