Looking for a Dose of Springtime Fun?

Spring has brought a wave of exciting new exhibitions and programs to the Museums of Mississauga. Stop by one of the remarkable exhibitions, take a guided tour and soak in the City’s rich history and heritage. The Museums of Mississauga is where history comes to life.

EXHIBITIONS

  • The City of Mississauga, 1974 to 2014: 40 Years, 40 Sagas
    Burnhamthorpe Library
    Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
    Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    On display until May 21
    Free

Commemorating the 40th anniversary of the City of Mississauga, this exhibit features photographs, artifacts and an interactive website highlighting the City’s growth, achievements and commitment to excellence through 40 ‘sagas’ or stories, one for each year since 1974. This travelling exhibition will also be at Carassauga: Mississauga’s Festival of Cultures (May 23 to 25), Streetsville’s Bread and Honey Festival (June 7) and Benares Historic House (June 10 to 26).   • The British Indian Army in the Great War, 1914 to 1918
    Bradley Museum
    Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
    Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
    On display until July 20
    Free

Marking the 100th anniversary of the ‘Great War’, this exhibit tells the story of the British Indian Army and the courageous role they played during World War I. For more information, visit museumsofmississauga.com.

  • Textiles of the Trencin Region of Slovakia
    Benares Historic House
    Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
    On display until May 27
    Free

This small exhibit features Slovakian textiles from the Trencin region famous for traditional embroidery, bobbin and crocheted lace. Hand embroidered wedding garments, lace, crochet and embroidery will be on display. For more information, visit museumsofmississauga.com.

  • Mother’s Day High Tea
    Benares Historic House
    Saturday, May 10 and Sunday, May 11 from noon to 2 p.m.
    $40 (plus tax)

    Enjoy a 1920s ‘flapper’ fashion presentation followed by a full high tea comprised of a selection of sandwiches, savouries, scones, sweets and teas served in the elegant dining and sitting rooms of Benares Historic House. Tickets must be purchased in advance by calling 905-615-4860, ext. 2110 (Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). Inquiries can also be made by email at museums.mississauga@mississauga.ca.
     
  • May is Museum Month
    Bradley Museum, Benares Historic House and Leslie Log House
    Sunday, May 18 from 1 to 4 p.m.

In celebration of International Museum Day on May 18 – all three Museums of Mississauga locations will be hosting guided tours, historic demonstrations and children’s activities.

  • Culture Café Speaker Series
    C Café – 300 City Centre Dr., Mississauga
    Free

The Culture Café Speaker Series features a number of talks focussed on the City of Mississauga’s 40th anniversary. Culture Café is presented in collaboration with Heritage Mississauga, Mississauga Library System, Museums of Mississauga, Heritage Advisory Committee and C Café.

o  Culture Café: Meet the Blues, Rock and Dance Stars of Legends Row
Wednesday, May 14 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Meet Ron Duquette, Chuck Jackson, Gil Moore and Lata Pada, Mississauga Legends Row 2013 recipients. Through their actions and deeds, these inductees have brought spirit and pride to our community inspiring tomorrow’s leaders.

o   Culture Café: Building Mississauga – 40 Years of Milestones and Opportunities
Wednesday, June 11 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

This talk explores the growth, development and planning of the City over the past 40 years.
