New Bylaw for Clotheslines

Jul 02, 2014

The City of Mississauga has a new bylaw for clotheslines.

In Ontario, municipalities can pass bylaws for clotheslines as long as they do not stop the use of clotheslines under the Ontario Green Energy Act, 2009

"The bylaw will meet the Ontario Green Energy Act and help ensure property standards are respected," said Mickey Frost director Enforcement. "The bylaw is to be enforced on a reactive basis and give staff tools they need to help address issues."

Bylaw Highlights:

• one clothesline per home with a second permitted for homes with a licensed second unit
• clotheslines are  to be kept in the backyard
• clothesline are not to be more than three metres high
• clotheslines must be 1.25 metres (49 inches) from the property line
