Media Photo Opportunity: New Public Art Sculpture in Downtown Core

Jul 21, 2014

Community Common Park, located in the city’s downtown core, will soon be home to a new public art sculpture. Contemplating Child is a large-scale, 3,500 pound steel piece that will be installed on the park’s south-east corner at Living Arts Drive and Princess Royal Drive. Currently there are over 37 public artworks on display citywide; 17 of which are part of the City’s Public Art collection.

“The City’s investment in public art is a critical aspect of animating and anchoring public space, and fostering a sense of belonging and connection to the City, said Andrew Whittemore, Director, Culture. “The Public Art program continues to advance the City’s Strategic goals of building vibrant communities, creating great public spaces and celebrating our community.”

Ferruccio Sardella, is a local GTA artist who created the work. Titled Contemplating Child, the sculpture – of a child sitting and thinking – speaks to the connection between family and community.
