City Announces New Director, Policy Planning

The City of Mississauga has appointed Andrew Whittemore as Director, Policy Planning, Planning and Building Department, effective January 2, 2015.
 
Reporting to the Commissioner, Planning and Building, Ed Sajecki, Whittemore will be responsible for managing all business functions of the Policy Planning Division. He will provide policy advice to support Mississauga’s Official Plan, set land use policy priorities and facilitate future land development strategies that balance sustainability with quality of life improvements.

“Andrew brings extensive policy and planning experience related to community visioning and planning, regional planning, waterfront and brownfield redevelopment, and cultural and heritage planning,” said commissioner of Planning and Building Ed Sajecki.  “He has great passion for community building and engagement and will ensure future planning policy aligns with the City’s strategic vision and official plan.”

Prior to joining the City of Mississauga where he is acting Director, Culture Division, Whittemore worked for the City of Halifax where he led many comprehensive community, economic, social and land use planning projects.  Whittemore established Halifax’s Community Relations and Cultural Affairs Division and led the creation of the City’s first Cultural Plan, Public Art Policy, and Civic Engagement Strategies.

Whittemore holds a Masters in Urban and Rural Planning  as well as undergraduate degrees in Science and Business Administration.
