Emergency Preparedness is Everyone's Responsibility

Dec 19, 2014

The City of Mississauga encourages all residents to be prepared for emergencies like natural disasters, adverse weather and extreme events such as the severe winter weather. In December 2013, Mississauga experienced a severe ice storm that caused a number of power outages, vehicle accidents and damage to property and trees.

“Our primary concern at the City is the health, well-being and safety of our residents, especially during emergencies,” explains Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “Our priority is making sure our residents and businesses are ready for all types of emergencies. We want to ensure that if something unexpected does occur, they are prepared with a proper plan and sufficient provisions to be safe.”

The City’s new Manager of Emergency Management, Teresa Burgess-Ogilvie says, “We’re urging residents to have a family emergency preparedness plan as well as a kit of essential supplies and provisions at hand in case an emergency does happen.” Burgess-Ogilvie is reminding home and business owners to take every precaution and be prepared for at least 72 hours or more following an emergency. “Make sure to listen for updates, forecasts and follow special instructions provided by the City of Mississauga and the Region of Peel during an emergency.”
