Mississauga Named Atop Canada's Safest Cities for 15th Year

Mar 13, 2015

For the 15th consecutive year, Mississauga has been named one of the safest cities in Canada based on research conducted by Safe City Mississauga.

“People choose Mississauga to raise a family, start a business and achieve success because our City is home to safe neighbourhoods,” Mayor Bonnie Crombie said. “Declining crime is proof our City has an unrivalled quality of life, and I want to recognize the team from Safe City Mississauga for providing important local programs and initiatives that promote community safety, crime prevention and mentor young people.

“I wish to further acknowledge Peel Regional Police Chief Jennifer Evans, and all Peel police officers, for their unwavering commitment, professionalism and bravery to keep Mississauga safe,” Crombie added.

The study was based on 2013 crime rates. In 2013, the city of Mississauga had 17,154 total criminal code offences, which translates to a rate of 2,270 per 100,000 people, This represents a 12.2% total crime rate decrease since 2012.
