Older adults and people with disabilities who need help shoveling snow that
plows leave at the bottom of a driveway can apply for help from the City of Mississauga this
winter. Applications for the Driveway Windrow
Snow Clearing Pilot Program will be available at all community centres and the Mississauga
Seniors' Centre until December 5.
"The Driveway Windrow Snow Clearing Pilot Program for the 2012/2013 winter season offers
windrow clearing after every snow plowing operation, but this could take up to 36 hours after
the end of a snow storm," said Joe Pitushka, director of Engineering and Works.
Residents who are 65 years and older and people with disabilities can apply. An application
will determine whether the service will be free, or have a $200 fee attached.
This program will be in effect from November 26, 2012 to March 8, 2013. The windrow snow
clearing service will plow a three metre (10 feet) wide area at the bottom of the driveway to
allow one car to pass.
Visit the City's windrow web
page for details on the program and for a printable application form. City of Mississauga
Community Centres will be accepting applications until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5.
