Making Mississauga a Safe City Through Community Based Programs

Nov 15, 2012

Mayor Hazel McCallion and Members of Council proudly recognized Safe City Mississauga at Council yesterday, as the organization was presented with the Best Community-Based Program of the Year Award from the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners (ISCPP).

“I’m so proud of the great progress we’ve made in crime prevention,” said Mayor Hazel McCallion. “Partnerships and programs like this have contributed to making Mississauga one of the safest cities in Canada for the last 12 years.”

Through Safe City Mississauga’s Aspire After School Program children in Mississauga receive peer tutoring and develop valuable social skills and academic discipline at a young age, before dropping out of school becomes an option. The award recognizes the program as one of the world’s most outstanding community-based crime prevention programs.
