12 p.m. Update: Hickory Drive Explosion

As of noon on Monday, July 4, the site remains under the control of the Fire Chief under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act. The site remains inaccessible and unsafe for residents to enter without an official escort.

As safety is the highest priority for Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services (MFES), the incident site will remain closed until it is deemed safe for residents to return safely to their homes.

Road Closures

Road closures around the site remain in effect and include Hickory Drive to the North and West, Rathburn Road to the South and Dixie Road to the East.

Recovery Process

  • The recovery process is well underway and will continue in the coming days.
  • Sixty-nine addresses are still impacted and within the site.
  • MFES are working with homeowners, their insurance representatives and city staff to continue the process of returning residents to their homes.

Community Support Session

What

The session will provide support to impacted residents and help them manage the critical incident stress associated with the Hickory Drive incident.

Who

Councillor Chris Fonseca and Fire Chief Tim Beckett will be onsite to share information and answer questions from residents.

Upcoming Meetings

Meetings will be organized in the coming days for:

  • residents of 1360 Rathburn Rd. specifically; and
  • a broader meeting for the greater area and general public to attend.

Impacted Residents

Residents looking for information can visit the mobile community information centre (accessible from Dixie and Rathburn) onsite Monday to Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or by calling 311.

Emergency accommodation is available for anyone impacted by the incident. Anyone in need is asked to call the Region of Peel at 905-791-7800.

24.7 Crisis Support Peel Mobile Team is available for those impacted and can be reached at 905-278-9036.
