Mississauga Promotes Life Sciences Cluster at 2017 BIO International Convention

Jun 15, 2017

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie and staff from the City’s Economic Development Office will attend the 2017 Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) International Convention to bring awareness to Mississauga’s life sciences sector. The convention will take place from June 19 to 22 in San Diego, California.

“Mississauga is home to Canada’s second largest life sciences cluster in Canada with more than 430 life sciences companies employing 22,000 people,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “This conference is an important opportunity for our City to build on our success, strengthen relationships with industry leaders and leverage Mississauga’s competitive advantage in the life sciences sector. I look forward to once again working closely with the team of professionals from Mississauga’s Economic Development Office to pitch our City’s success story as Canada’s leading destination for job creators to invest, expand service offerings and remain ahead of the competition.”

Mayor Crombie will share Mississauga’s Life Sciences Cluster Strategy with industry leaders and partners at the conference.

“Mississauga has the second largest life sciences sector in Canada and it continues to expand," said Susan Amring, Director of Economic Development. “We are seeing new developments in medical devices, diagnostics and health and information technology (IT) through these Mississauga-based businesses. As a city with a focus in life sciences, we are excited to see these advancements within the sector.”

“Our Life Sciences Cluster strategy is the first of its kind for a Canadian municipality,” Amring added. “It will also transform the cluster over the next five years.”

Mississauga will be represented in the Ontario and Canadian pavilions at booth #4325. For more information about the 2017 BIO International Convention, visit convention.bio.org.
